The Kickstarter for Kenichi Sonoda’s Bean Bandit New Anime Project is our last, best hope for a Gunsmith Cats sequel. A self-contained anime, 5 minutes long, located in Chicago. A story about guns, girls and couriers for 1,928 otaku backers. A shining beacon in today’s ecchi-based world, all alone in Japan. It was the dawn of the fourth wave of weeaboos, the year the Great American Space War came upon us all. This is the story of the last good crowd-funded animes. The year is 2018, the place Panel Room 5.

Sonoda and Friends

One of the highlights of Anime Central was the world premier of Kenichi Sonoda’s Bean Bandit reboot. It was a great panel with the sound guy and main artist, but the legions of weeaboos mainly had questions for Sonoda-san, save for the car-aboos who needed to know that exhausting detail into car sound would be put forth. We got a short snippet of the anime, and then the button was pressed. Almost instantly, backers started flooding in, including most of The Table that was there. The end result, in the month that it was out, netted the campaign ¥23,343,872 of the ¥15,000,000 goal, so hopefully that signals to the anime-producing the world that we are ready for more rollicking adventures in Chicago.
